Multiple people were killed in a crowd crush at the world’s largest religious gathering in India early Wednesday, as tens of millions of devotees went to bathe in a river on one of the most sacred days of a Hindu festival.

A deadly stampede at Triveni Sangam ghat during Mahakumbh 2025 resulted in at least fifteen deaths as devotees gathered for Mauni Amavasya Amrit Snan. Prime Minister Modi expressed condolences and is coordinating relief efforts with Uttar Pradesh's Chief Minister.
