Sir Keir Starmer's plan to deport failed asylum seekers to third countries suffered an early setback after Albania ruled itself out as a host.

The blunt rejection came just hours after Sir Keir said the Government had begun talks with unnamed countries about housing migrants awaiting deportation.

The Prime Minister said such hubs would be ‘a very important additional tool in our armoury’ combined with other measures to tackle smuggling gangs.
