Survey teams were still working to assess damage into the evening Sunday, but officials said they have already documented severe damage near and west of the London-Corbin Airport.

The Jackson, Kentucky office is one of a growing number of forecast offices unable to cover an overnight shift since the Trump administration cut staffing levels through buyouts and firings.

Due to staffing shortages, the National Weather Service in Jackson no longer has overnight staff. But NWS and Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear say the office was staffed Friday night and early Saturday.

LONDON, Ky. (WYMT) - Neighborhoods throughout London are feeling the affects of the tornado early Saturday morning. Getson Roberts live in the an apartment complex off of Highway 25, near the London Corbin Airport. He said he was in his apartment when the tornado tore through.

The 22News Storm Team issued a Weather Alert for widespread strong, potentially severe, thunderstorms expected Saturday afternoon. At least 28 people are dead after severe storms ripped through the central U.

A tornado tore through Laurel County, Kentucky, damaging homes and businesses. Several injuries have been reported and Highway KY 363 has been shut down.
