CORPUS CHRISTI, Tx — A rescue swimmer assigned to U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi is being called a hero for rescuing 165 from Camp Mystic during the July 4th flooding disaster. Petty Officer Scott Ruskan says his rescue team was sent to Central Texas on what should have been a 1-hour flight.

Coast Guard Petty Officer Scott Ruskan rescued over 200 people during his first mission over the weekend from floods that killed over 100 people.

Ruskan said he finished his Coast Guard training about six months earlier and has been with the Coast Guard for roughly a year, based in Corpus Christi. It's a far cry from Wall Street, where the Coast Guard said he left a career to "do something different with his life.
