Bong’s Mickey 17, adapted from Ashton Edward’s 2022 science-fiction novel Mickey7, is based on a terrific premise: It’s 2054 and hapless Earthling Mickey Barnes, played by Robert Pattinson, is so desperate to escape the repercussions of a bad debt that he signs on to be part of a group of eager citizens headed to a new and ostensibly better planet known as Niflheim.

The box office is welcoming back Robert Pattinson — a lot of him. Pattinson stars in “Mickey 17,” an R-rated sci-fi movie from “Parasite” director Bong Joon Ho, where he plays multiple clones of the same person who dies repeatedly.
