Online retailer Amazon announced 432 of 500 employees from its sorting center in Findlay Township will be displaced in March as the company plans to make more than $20 million in improvements to the facility.
Amazon alerted the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry about 432 sorting center employees. However, the employees are not being laid off or fired. Due to this construction, Amazon says 432 workers will be displaced starting on March 12. The 237 permanent employees will be able to transfer to another facility — there are eight in total in and around Pittsburgh. If those employees choose not to stay with Amazon, the company will help with job assistance and is offering a severance package.
Amazon operates at least four facilities in the western suburbs and has eight overall in western Pennsylvania.
