Laurie Perez reports from Altadena, where former Vice President Kamala Harris stopped after leaving the White House on Monday to thank first responders who have continued to work around the clock on the Eaton and Palisades Fires.

Harris and former Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff met with Los Angeles County firefighters and volunteers distributing free meals in Altadena.

Former Vice President Kamala Harris praised firefighters during a visit to a Los Angeles County Fire Department station in Altadena Monday shortly after returning to Southern California from the presidential inauguration in Washington.

The mosque started as the Altadena-Pasadena Dawah Center in the 1970s by a group of Black Muslims leaving the Nation of Islam. The community was tight knit and used various locations to worship. But as their numbers grew, they needed a permanent home.

Cam Irwin, a builder and fire victim who lost his home in the Eaton Fire, talks about rebuilding in the Altadena neighborhood. He says his neighbors want to rebuild, and most people want to get back.

A coalition of advocates Friday urged Los Angeles County elected officials for a just recovery for victims of the Eaton Fire, which burned down areas of Altadena — home to a diverse community and known as a historically Black neighborhood.
