Tropical Depression 3 strengthened into Tropical Storm Chantal on Saturday, July 5, according to the latest update from the National Hurricane Center.

A weather system tracking the Southeast U.S. coastline has officially strengthened this Friday into Tropical Depression 3, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Tropical Depression Three has strengthened to a tropical storm system. Tropical Storm Chantal is 150 miles south-southeast of Charleston, South Carolina. It is slowly moving north at 2 mph, with winds sustained at 40 mph. The system will remain offshore before moving over land, near South Carolina, by Sunday.
