President Donald Trump meets Thursday with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has heaped praise on him and is hoping to avoid tariffs that Trump has ordered for imports from other countries. The White House said Trump would sign a new order ahead of their meeting that could impose reciprocal tariffs across the global economy.

India is acutely aware that trade and immigration issues are a potential double whammy. But it believes it can preserve growing ties.

After his arrival in Paris on Monday evening, PM Modi will attend a dinner hosted by President Macron at the Élysée Palace in honour of visiting heads of government and heads of state. The dinner is also likely to be attended by a large number of CEOs from the tech sector and other distinguished invitees to the summit.
